Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, is a common injury that originally got its name because it is a frequent injury that affects many tennis players. However, it also occurs in people who do not play tennis at all.

The lateral epicondyle is the outside bony portion of the elbow where large tendons attach to the elbow from the muscles of the forearm. These tendons can be injured, especially with repetitive motions of the forearm, such as hitting a backhand shot while playing tennis, lifting weights, or even using hand-held tools for long periods of time.

Tennis elbow results with inflammation of the tendons causing pain on the outside of the elbow. Pain can also spread into your forearm and wrist.

The most common symptoms of tennis elbow are:

The treatment for tennis elbow usually includes ice packs, resting the elbow, and anti-inflammatory medications. Using an elbow brace to immobilize it can also help. If the pain is severe and persistent, local cortisone injections may be given. In severe cases, an orthopedic surgical repair may be performed.

PRP and Stem Cell Treatments can help:

But now we offer the PRP and Adult Stem Cell Injection treatments to help heal your Tennis elbow, without the risks of invasive surgery.

Depending on the severity of your injury, you might be a candidate for a new breakthrough treatment called Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), which may be an alternative treatment to surgery. The diagnosis and treatment course is determined after the examination by physician and a MRI may be needed.

In a recent study, the analysis by the Rothman Institute at Jefferson included a multi-center randomized prospective study to research the clinical value of PRP. The study included 230 patients with chronic tennis elbow, where one half were treated with PRP and the other half were the control group. The PRP group received single PRP injections into their tendonitis area.

Both groups were studied for up to 24 weeks. By the end of 24 weeks, only 29% of  PRP group reported significant tenderness rating, as compared to 54% from the control.

The results of this study present some of the most compelling evidence to date of the efficacy of platelet rich plasma therapy.

Most times athletes are told that they need surgery to fix their sports injuries. But surgery is not the answer for most of the sports injuries, and may actually never help you regain your performance to the level you were prior to the injury.

Patients coping with sports injuries, tendon strains, sprained ligaments, muscle injuries, arthritis and more, will be comforted to know that surgery is not the only option of treatment available to them. Faster healing as well as improved functionality both are possible with innovative, cutting- edge ADULT stem cell and PRP procedures.

As alternatives to the joint surgery, SmartChoice® Procedures may help alleviate joint pain, arthritis and other sports injuries that caused it with a simple office injection procedure. We encourage the patients to walk the same day and most experience almost no downtime after our procedures whatsoever.
